On Saturday 26th October from 10:00am we welcome activists from across Scotland whether you are an active CAAT local group member or brand new to our work to come together and take part in a series of skillshares from the CAAT staff team.
Workshops:
Not on our doorstep! Scotland and the Arms Trade – Emma Cockburn (Scotland Coordinator). Join us for a deep dive into the state of the arms industry in Scotland and help us plan what we can do next to release its insidious grip on our communities and government.
Knowledge is power! Researching the Arms Trade – Sam Perlo-Freeman (Research Coordinator). From arms exports to Israel to mapping the arms companies in our cities, we’ll walk through CAAT’s various data tools to equip us with the knowledge needed to campaign against the arms industry.
Make a splash! Utilising your local media – Emily Apple (Media Coordinator). Interacting with your local press, from the John O’Groats Journal to the Border Telegraph, can make or break a campaign. Learn the skills needed to use these platforms for a big impact!
We’re all changemakers! Advocacy 101 – Katie Fallon (Advocacy Coordinator). Lobbying your councillor, legally challenging the UK Govt or emailing your MSP – join us to learn how to use all these vital tactics to create change needed to dismantle the arms trade.
Accessibility:
Public transport: The venue is just a minute’s walk from Bridgeton Rail Station, served by several bus routes from Glasgow City Centre and beyond, and has secure bike storage for those who need it.
Meeting space: The hall we will be gathering in benefits from lots of natural light and air conditioning. It is fully accessible from the ground floor at street level with no steps, including gender-neutral toilets and a changing space. You can see images of the meeting space here.
If you have any questions or additional access requests please do not hesitate to contact Emma ([email protected]) and we will try our best to accommodate.
Travel Fund:
Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) has set aside funding to support activists to attend our demonstrations and events who could not afford to attend otherwise. If a lack of funds would prevent you from travelling to this event, please contact Emma ([email protected]), and we will try to support you.
Get ready to be inspired, and we cannot wait to see you there.
