Schaeffler

The Schaeffler Group, headquartered in Germany, describes itself as a “global integrated automotive and industrial supplier” (company website). Its central focus is on bearings.

One of its subsidiaries, the Barden Corporation, says it is a “world leader in both the design and manufacture of super precision ball bearings” (Barden website). Among other industrial uses, these are used in missiles and military aircraft systems. They are, for example “at the heart of” Ultra Electronics’ HiPPAG compact gas compressors which have been “developed for the F-35 JSF aircraft and is being supplied for Boeing’s Small Diameter Bomb programme, the Eurofighter Typhoon, the US Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier, AH-1W Super Cobra, F/A-18 C/D Hornet, and the US Navy F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet aircraft.” (Barden website)
