Over the past 10 years or more, the UK has continued to arm Saudi Arabia during its brutal bombing campaign and blockade of Yemen, and Israel during its genocide in Gaza. Drawing on the experience of three court cases challenging these decisions, the report unravels the reasoning and approach to decision-making successive governments have used to justify these egregious arms sales, and shows how this has effectively rendered international humanitarian law – the laws of war, designed to protect civilians in conflict, irrelevant, while also nullifying the UK’s obligations under the Genocide Convention and the Arms Trade Treaty.
We will hear from the report’s authors and from those who have undertaken the legal actions against the UK government to try to challenge these appalling norms. There will be plenty of time for Q&A.
