Warwick students Campaign Against Arms Trade in 10,000 metre run

Two students from the University of Warwick are preparing for the Great Yorkshire Run on 6 September in aid of the Campaign Against the Arms Trade (CAAT). Sami Wannell and Kat Hobbs are dedicated supporters of CAAT.

Kat, 21, from Baldock, Herts, has just graduated in English and creative writing. She is currently working in Malawi, investigating the issue of food security in the developing world. Kat admits to having a daredevil streak in her, as apart from the humanitarian work she’ll be undertaking while in Africa, she also plans to climb a mountain and do a bungee jump off Victoria Falls.

Sami, 22, originally from south London, did a Masters in Maths. He juggled his study time with charity promotion and is now the Student Union welfare officer. Born of a Muslim mother and a Christian father, Sami’s family moved to Reading from Peckham when he was only four and, like Kat, he says he is driven by the desire to see social justice.

Sami says:

All the campaigning we’ve done has been informed by CAAT’s research. Now we’d like to give something back. The 10km course will be a real challenge for us, but we’re training hard!

Notes
  1. If you would like to sponsor Sami and Kat, you can send donations to: CAAT, Unit 4, 5-7 Wells Terrace, London, N4 3JU or visit Sami and Kat
  2. The Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) works for the reduction and ultimate abolition of the international arms trade. Around 80% of CAAT’s income comes from individual supporters and CAAT is strictly non-violent in all its work.

CAAT would not exist without its supporters. Each new supporter helps us strengthen our call for an end to the international arms trade.
