Germany-based Thyssenkrupp is listed by SIPRI as being the world’s 47th largest arms company, even though military equipment comprises just 4% of its sales.
The company focuses on steel production and industrial engineering over a wide range of sectors. Its arms production is primarily within the Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems business, where it builds MEKO corvettes and frigates, and non-nuclear submarines.
Thyssenkrupp has supplied submarines to the navies of more than 20 countries. A contract to supply Dophin submarines to Israel is the subject of an Israeli police investigation.
