While war and genocide means devastation for most, for the arms industry it means big business.
Join us on Monday 28 April to launch a new series from New Internationalist: ‘How to Stop the Arms Trade’. From Palestine to Sudan, we’ll discuss how our governments and institutions are fuelling armed conflict and genocide around the world, what we can do about it and how to build international links in the process.
While the arms trade is vast and secretive, there is a groundswell of people across the world taking action to challenge its power, from the gates of arms factories to our highest courts. We’ll be joined by speakers at the frontlines of some of these movements.
New Internationalist co-editor Amy Hall will be speaking with:
· Saeed Taji Farouky from direct action group Palestine Action
· An expert from London For Sudan (TBC)
· Katie Fallon, advocacy manager for Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT)
· Charlotte Andrews-Briscoe, a lawyer for Global Legal Action Network which is taking on the UK government in the courts over its arms exports to Israel
We’ll begin with the panel discussion and there will be plenty of time for questions, as well as food and soft drinks available to buy from the venue. We are also planning to record the event for a live episode of our podcast The World Unspun.
Please get in touch if you have any accessibility needs and we will do what we can to meet them.
