Human Rights Day Protest at Crewe Small Arms Factory

Local supporters of Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) and other local peace and human rights groups will take part in a protest outside a BAE Systems small arms factory in Radway Green, Nr Crewe on Wednesday 10 December, International Human Rights Day.

The visit is the 40th and final protest in CAAT’s Site Unseen tour which has visited 40 BAE Systems sites around the country during 2003. The Site Unseen tour is aimed at raising awareness of the arms trade and showing how people can work together at a local and national level to end it.

Chris Cole, CAAT Campaigns Co-ordinator said It’s very appropriate that the culmination of the tour is at BAE Systems small arms factory in Radway Green. Small arms are the basic method of mass killing throughout the world. The proliferation of small arms leads to destabilization, conflict and the killing of innocent civilians, including children. Despite this BAE Systems boasts that it sells guns and ammunition to over 50 countries. If we want real peace and security in the world, we need to end the arms trade.

The protest at BAE Systems will take place from Noon – 2pm and will be followed by a public meeting in the evening at Wistaston Hall in Crewe from 7.30pm.
