Equal pay

Last updated 24 September 2020

A key part of CAAT’s commitment to non-hierarchical organising and equitable treatment is our approach to paying staff and freelancers. We do not have managers or a Chief Executive – all permanent staff play a role in the collective management of CAAT. We value the contribution of all staff roles to achieving the organisation’s aims rather than allowing the market to determine that some people’s work is more valuable and should be paid more.

All permanent posts are on a single salary grade which has a London and an out of London rate to reflect the higher cost of living in the capital. Pension contributions are made at a single rate for all staff as we cannot predict where someone might live in the future.

Freelance contracts are offered on an hourly rate that is based on the single salary grade (taking into account the different legal situation relating to taxation and pension contributions for self-employed workers) – our aim is to ensure that there is no financial advantage or disadvantage to either category of worker.

From time to time CAAT offers fixed-term paid internships. These are offered at a slightly lower salary, but internships come with an enhanced training budget to reflect the developmental nature of the role.

CAAT would not exist without its supporters. Each new supporter helps us strengthen our call for an end to the international arms trade.
